Tonight has become a big annual football focus in America. At our church we are capitalizing on this by celebrating a night of “Faith, Food & Football.” We will all meet in our gymnasium at 6:00 for our Sunday evening get-together. I am planning a short devotional message regarding the life of Bobby Bowden. Bowden, the lengendary Florida State football coach, has been a dedicated and devoted Christian for many years. Then we will judge (& eat) our men’s chili cook-off. Most of us will stay to watch the Super Bowl until half-time. Most people will go home at half-time and maybe catch the rest of the game.
Here we are in the heart of Florida. I asked the congregation this morning, how many favored the Indianapolis Colts tonight? I would say about 30 hands went up. Then I asked, how many are pulling for the New Orleans Saints? Again, about 30 hands, maybe 35, went up. Then I asked, how many don’t care? A few hundred hands went up!
But it has been refreshing to hear the Christian testimonies of players and coaches from both the Colts and the Saints this week. The Bible tells us that whatever we do, do all to the glory of God (I Corinthians 10:31)!
