Special Time of the Year

Friday, March 26th, 2010

This is a special time of the year as we focus on Calvary and the events leading up to Easter Sunday.

Our choir cantata last Sunday night got us off to a great start for this season.

This Sunday we will be looking at what the Scripture has to say about Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem on the first Palm Sunday.

We have a special program this week — with Jews for Jesus missionary Robyn Wilk presenting “Christ in the Passover” on Wednesday, March 31, at 6:30 PM, and then I will speak on “The 3 Gardens” at a special Good Friday service at 12:00 noon this coming Friday, April 2.

And of course, April 4, we will celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave with our Easter Sunday morning service at 10:50 AM.

I hop you can join us for this special time of the year!

Radio Broadcast

Wednesday, March 10th, 2010

Our church has the privilege of being the “Church of the Week” on WTLN 950 AM Christian radio here in Orlando this week. One of our recent church services will be broadcast this Sunday, March 14, at 2:00 PM on WTLN radio. That particular service includes a message on “The Walls of Jericho,” from Joshua, chapter 6. I preached it during a series from the Old Testament book of Joshua.

We appreciate WTLN’s ministry and look forward to having Bill Rhoden of WTLN with us this Sunday to represent the Christian radio station.

WTLN has a great lineup of broadcasts each week. A couple of my favorites include Dr. Albert Mohler and Dr. David Jeremiah. We encourage you to listen to WTLN radio, 950 AM here in Orlando!

Men’s Prayer Breakfast

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

We are delighted to have Paul Porter as our speaker at our men’s prayer breakfast this Saturday, March 6, at 8:00 AM here at Delaney Street Baptist Church.

Paul is the arena voice of the NBA’s Orlando Magic and the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning. He announces the games for the Magic at the Amway Center here in Orlando and for the Lightning at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa. And he does some sports annoucing for ESPN.

I have known Paul for years. At one time he was a member of a church I once served as pastor. I knew his longtime pastor in Northeast Ohio. Paul is currently a member of Idlewild Baptist Church, one of our great Southern Baptist churches in Tampa.

Paul was once the arena announcer for the Cleveland Cavaliers. He joined the Magic from the outset. He has the unique distinction of being the only arena announcer to call an NBA all-star game in two different sports arenas. He was the voice of the Cavaliers when they hosted the NBA all-star game in Cleveland, and then he was the voice of the Magic when they hosted the NBA all-star game here in Orlando.

Both Paul and his wife are dedicated Christians. We look forward to hearing him this Saturday.
