Church on Vacation

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

For many years my family and I have enjoyed visiting other churches on vacation. My son, who is now a pastor, reminded me this week of the enjoyable memories he has of visiting various churches on vacation. Now, with him in the ministry, and another son-in-law in the ministry, we have visited both of their churches this year while traveling. We also visited First Baptist of New Smyrna Beach, whose new pastor is a friend of mine.

My wife and I do not feel duty-bound to go to church on vacation. We enjoy it. We do not take a vacation from worshipping God. And we like to see how others are ministering and pick up new ideas from their churches.

Overall, for us, visiting other churches on vacation is a thoroughly enjoyable experience. And it fulfills Hebrews 10:25, as well!

July

Thursday, July 9th, 2009

July has been a great family month for my wife and me. We have spent time with our two daughters and three of our grandchildren already. Later this month we will visit our son and our three other grandsons in Ohio.

Evangelist Jim Wilson did a marvelous job of preaching for us at Delaney Street last Sunday in my absence. This Sunday I will be preaching on “Mercy — The Woman Taken in Adultery” from John 8.

Our church attendance and giving is up this summer, over last summer, for which we thank the Lord!
